Description

The Ernst Habermann Prize, awarded every two years by the Transylvanian Saxon Foundation, honors outstanding scientific and artistic works by young authors under the age of 40 with a direct or indirect connection to Transylvania, the Transylvanian Saxons, or their concerns. The prize, endowed with 2,500 euros, is awarded anonymously by an independent jury based on neutral quality criteria. Submissions may include German-language theses, manuscripts, or publications not older than two years. Each applicant submits their work along with a keyword and a sealed envelope containing their name, address, and proof of age. In the case of equally qualified submissions, the prize money may be divided among up to three recipients; however, if no above-average performance is evident, the award may be withheld. Reapplication is only possible with a new work.

The prize targets scholars and artists dedicated to the research, documentation, and dissemination of Transylvanian Saxon culture who have not yet reached the age of 40. The formal call for applications and exact submission deadlines are available on the website of the Transylvanian Saxon Foundation. The award ceremony is held ceremoniously by the chairman of the board of trustees during the Homecoming Day of the Transylvanian Saxons in Dinkelsbühl. The jury also frequently commissions expert opinions to ensure a well-founded selection. Through this, the foundation specifically supports creative and research-oriented projects that keep the Transylvanian Saxon heritage alive and advance it both scientifically and artistically.
