Description
The Erwin Schrödinger Prize annually honors outstanding scientific achievements in the natural sciences and mathematical-technical disciplines, conducted in Austria or at international institutions with an Austrian connection. With a prize money of €15,000, the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) recognizes excellent research works that impress through international visibility and sustainable impact. Eligible candidates are non-members of the ÖAW who are nominated by members of the Academy. Submissions must be complete by June 30, 2026, to enable the international peer-review committee to make a well-founded selection.
A detailed documentation is required for the nomination: a tabular curriculum vitae with a publication list including the ten most cited works (ISI), PDF excerpts of the three most important publications, as well as a comprehensive justification outlining the scientific career, influence on the field, and the sustainable impact of the research achievements. The decision is made by the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class of the ÖAW upon recommendation of an independent awarding committee. Evaluation criteria include, among others, international recognition, scientific innovation, and long-term benefit to the discipline. The award targets researchers whose work makes a significant contribution to the advancement of the natural and technical sciences. Interested parties can find further details on the submission procedure and selection process at the ÖAW and learn about the annual call for applications.
