Description

Within the framework of ESF Plus 2021–2027, the funding program "University and Research – B – Early Career Research Groups" enables Saxon universities and non-university research institutions to establish and supervise independent scientific qualification projects led by postdoctoral researchers. The goal is the long-term development and expansion of early career research groups to strengthen research, innovation, and knowledge transfer in Saxony. Grants are awarded for personnel costs of group leaders and scientific staff, material resources, travel expenses, as well as publication and exploitation costs. Investment in major equipment, construction, and real estate acquisitions are excluded. This funding instrument targets postdoctoral researchers and scientific staff who aim for independent project leadership and represent a Saxon university or research institution. Prerequisites include local sponsorship or residency in Saxony, a convincing research concept, and proof of scientific qualification.

Applications are accepted continuously until the end of the funding period in the form of a pure grant. Evaluation criteria include the scientific quality and innovativeness of the project, the suitability of the applicants, and the relevance for research and transfer. Required documents include the application form, a detailed project description, CVs and qualification certificates of the applicants, as well as a financing plan. Processing and disbursement are handled by the Saxon Development Bank – Förderbank – (SAB) on behalf of the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism. This funding opportunity offers committed early career researchers attractive prospects to establish structured, independent research groups and to position themselves sustainably within Saxony’s research environment.
