Description

The European Co-Development Grant supports the joint project development of independent production companies across Europe. The aim is to realize animated, documentary, or feature films with pronounced cross-border market potential for cinema, television, and digital platforms. Eligible for funding are at least two independent production companies from different EU countries that have a legally binding co-development agreement. With a total budget of EUR 9 million in 2026, the program supports creative collaborations already in the early development phase. Increased focus is placed on innovative financing and marketing strategies that promote cultural diversity, ecological sustainability, as well as gender balance, inclusion, and diversity. Project partners are expected to benefit from a strengthened market position and improved competitiveness in Europe and internationally. Submission opens on 30 September 2025; the application deadline is 25 February 2026, 17:00 (Brussels time).

The following documents are required for the application: Standard application form (CREA MEDIA), Detailed budget table (CREA LSII), Creative dossier (CREA MEDIA CODEV), proof of independence and ownership structure, as well as information on the language of the submission documents. The grant is awarded as a one-time payment and is subject to the provisions of the Creative Europe program. The European Commission evaluates project proposals based on quality, cross-border potential, and degree of innovation. Upon completion of the selection process by November 2026, successful applicants will receive a grant agreement. This funding instrument is specifically aimed at independent European production companies that wish to develop ambitious audiovisual works and jointly open up new target audiences in Europe and beyond.
