Description

The funding program "Extremism Prevention" supports nationwide contact points dedicated to primary prevention and social cohesion. The focus is on training and further education offerings as well as concrete information campaigns that empower individuals who may come into contact with groups at risk of radicalization. The goal is to broaden the expertise for initial intervention steps and to develop new forms of training pathways. Contact points receive 100% subsidies for qualified training, reprinting of brochures and leaflets, as well as the evaluation of all prevention activities. Eligible for funding are public institutions that act as central contact points and can demonstrate prior experience in extremism prevention. Applications can be submitted at any time; there is no fixed application deadline.

Funding is provided for personnel expenses, material and travel costs, printing costs, as well as expenses for the evaluation of prevention formats. Retroactive costs, debt settlements, or real estate acquisitions are not eligible. Evaluation is based on regional coverage, the quality concept of the training, and experience in extremism prevention. Applicants submit a written request according to the BMI template, a financial plan, a detailed performance or project plan, and a timeline. The Federal Ministry of the Interior continuously reviews the applications, concludes funding contracts, and accompanies implementation through regular reports and evaluations. Interested institutions are encouraged to submit their prevention projects to the BMI and thus actively contribute to strengthening democratic culture in Austria.
