Description
Since its inception, the Bavarian Cultural Fund has supported innovative literary events organized by non-governmental and non-commercial entities throughout Bavaria – with the exception of the cities of Munich and Nuremberg. Projects of supra-local or supra-regional significance, distinguished by substantive quality and creative concepts, are eligible for funding. Eligible applicants include associations, foundations, interest groups, municipalities, and private individuals planning projects with a total volume of at least €10,000. Funding is provided as a grant covering up to 30% of eligible costs, with a maximum of €1 million. Ongoing operating expenses and multiple funding from state sources are excluded. Selection is based on clearly defined criteria: the content quality and reach of the event are paramount.
The annual application deadline for the Bavarian Cultural Fund – Arts Division is October 1. The responsibility for the initial review of applications lies with the respective district government in whose district the project takes place or where the applicant’s headquarters are located. To submit an application, the event location and date as well as information about participating authors and works must be provided. The final decision is made by the State Ministry for Science and the Arts each spring of the following year. The funding aims to strengthen the regional diversity of the literary landscape and support Bavarian cultural practitioners in the conception of sophisticated projects.
