Description
The travel cost subsidy for people with disabilities in Carinthia provides private individuals with a disability according to § 2 para. 1 of the Carinthian Equal Opportunities Act with financial relief for necessary trips to facilities for disabled assistance or due to official summons. The funding is granted as a one-time subsidy and reimburses travel costs up to the most economical means of transport available. Expenses for an accompanying person are also considered if required for health or organizational reasons. The exemption from financial barriers aims to reduce obstacles to access educational and social services (special needs kindergartens, schools with/without boarding, full- or semi-boarding facilities) and to enable affected individuals unrestricted participation in everyday life. Applications can be submitted at any time and retroactively cover expenses incurred in the twelve months prior to application.
Prerequisites for approval are proof of the chosen mode of transportation: for public transport, ticket receipts, mileage details, and monthly schedules with travel dates; for private cars, a detailed daily travel log including mileage. Only trips from the place of residence to the facility and back, officially mandated appointments in disabled assistance, mileage allowance according to the official rate, and accompanying costs are funded. Trips to medical appointments or comparable medical purposes are excluded. Due to the always open deadline, there is no need for close applicant mobilization; retroactive reimbursement within one year ensures flexible and needs-based support.
