Description
Family assistance in Styria supports families in acute crisis and emergency situations through temporary, individualized care with the aim of preventing neglect of children and adolescents and avoiding out-of-home placements. As a grant for non-profit organizations, it is continuously available and can be utilized for a period of up to six months, with a one-time extension possible if needed. Funding is provided especially for families with care needs, including single parents re-entering the workforce, households after separation, death, or serious illness of a parent, as well as situations involving risky living conditions. A valid care agreement with the district administrative authority, which defines the individual funding requirements and care objectives, is a prerequisite.
Within the framework of family assistance, expenses for the care, nurturing, and upbringing of children and adolescents are funded, as well as household management. The service is provided by officially approved child and youth welfare institutions under a written service contract with the Styrian State Government. The goal is to strengthen the parenting skills of the parents and to guide them in acquiring practical life skills under the guiding principle of "help for self-help." The grant is awarded in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Child and Youth Welfare Act 2013 as well as the Styrian Child and Youth Welfare Act and its implementing regulation. Since October 31, 2013, there has been no deadline for application submission, ensuring continuous support in cases of need.
