Description

The Institute for the History of German Jews in Hamburg awards financial and non-material support in the form of scholarships for doctoral candidates and post-docs in the field of Jewish Studies. Funding is provided for research stays of up to four months, during which the institute’s extensive specialized library and diverse archival holdings can be intensively utilized. In addition to financial support, scholarship recipients benefit from advice, networking, and academic exchange with international colleagues on site. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; information on exact deadlines is published on the institute’s website. The funding is aimed at research projects that address innovative questions in the historical and contemporary context of Judaism while simultaneously invigorating the academic dialogue at the Hamburg location.

The program seeks to open new perspectives in Jewish Studies and strengthen international exchange. A prerequisite for the grant is active participation in the institute’s events, presentation of one’s own project in a research colloquium, and independent organization of a one-day workshop in Hamburg. Only the scholarship itself, which supports researchers in carrying out their academic work, is funded. Through the combination of library and archival infrastructure, academic supervision, and a vibrant discourse, the program aims to make a sustainable contribution to the further development of the discipline and at the same time increase the international visibility of Hamburg’s research priorities in the field of Jewish Studies.
