Description

The transdisciplinary "Field Trip" residency program of the Akademie Schloss Solitude, in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Biology, promotes interdisciplinary exchange between contemporary art and empirical research. Professional artists and researchers from Baden-Württemberg are given the opportunity to spend six weeks each at the other's workplace: artists accompany field research in the animal protection area and at the Excellence Cluster Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour in Konstanz, while scientists undertake an equally long guest residency at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. This bilateral structure supports experimental enthusiasm, expands the practice spaces of both disciplines, and enables insights into field research, data collection, and artistic methods.

The program is funded as a grant for individuals interested in interdisciplinary collaboration. During the three-month stay, the fellows receive the status of guest researchers and actively participate in field research projects as well as artistic workshops. Selection is made through an open call, with the next deadline starting in autumn 2024. The residency offers not only intensive networking opportunities but also the chance to present results at interdisciplinary events in Stuttgart and Konstanz. This offer is aimed at creatives and scientists who wish to sustainably enrich their research approaches and artistic practices through collaborative knowledge exchange.
