Description
The film funding program “Innovative Film” of the Arts and Culture section of the responsible Federal Ministry targets filmmakers, production companies, non-profit organizations, and start-ups based in Vienna. In the fields of culture and media, documentary, feature, and experimental films (including short films) are supported in all phases from screenplay through project development and production to distribution (cinema release and festival participation). Additionally, travel subsidies are available for festival appearances and the exploration of new distribution channels. Submission deadlines are January 31, May 31, and September 30, and grants of up to €120,000 per project can be awarded.
Only projects that could not be realized without this support and whose concept convinces through innovation as well as dramaturgical and artistic quality are funded. Prerequisites include Austrian citizenship or uninterrupted primary residence in Austria for at least three years. Own contributions must be provided within the scope of economic capacity, and all previously submitted funding applications must be disclosed. Eligible expenses include, among others, screenplay development, production costs, creation of DCP copies, marketing and distribution costs, travel expenses, and work stipends; purchases of tangible goods, retroactive costs, debt settlement, as well as consumption and taxi receipts are not funded. Required documents include the application form, project description, financing plan, CV, registration confirmation, technical details, detailed budget, and proof of rights as well as, if applicable, option contracts.
