Description
As the central funding institution for feature films in Austria, this basic funding enables the long-term securing of the operational and personnel structures of the Austrian Film Institute. The goal is to strengthen the feature film as a cultural product and to sustainably expand the national film industry structures. This not only promotes the creative and artistic quality of Austrian film productions but also increases their international competitiveness. The continuous submission option ensures that operational processes can flexibly respond to new developments in the film sector and that industry stakeholders are always provided with reliable framework conditions.
Within the framework of this direct funding, only operational and personnel costs are supported in accordance with the provisions of the financing and performance agreement. The Austrian Film Institute, as a public institution, is eligible, thereby fulfilling its legal mandate to establish stable funding structures. The funds are allocated nationwide, with a total budget of approximately 19.5 million euros annually. Applications can be submitted continuously; the review is conducted based on the applicable agreements and legal foundations (Film Funding Act 1980, as amended). The Arts and Culture Section of the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport creates the appropriate framework conditions and assumes the administrative handling of the grants.
