Description

The Foundation Help for the Family – Foundation of the State of Berlin supports pregnant women in Berlin who are in an acute financial emergency. With a one-time grant for necessary expenses such as maternity clothing or initial baby equipment, it helps to ensure the continuation of the pregnancy as well as the subsequent care and upbringing of the child. Eligible for funding are individuals with habitual residence or domicile in Berlin who cannot receive priority assistance benefits. A prerequisite for a successful application is proof of personal assets, income statements from the third month of pregnancy onwards, as well as confirmation from a recognized counseling center that assesses the situation locally and endorses the application.

The application can be submitted at any time through one of these counseling centers and must include the presentation of identification documents, maternity record book, registration confirmation, and complete proof of assets. Upon receipt, the foundation reviews the documents and informs the applicants in writing of the decision. Approval is granted based on the following criteria: sufficiently justified emergency, exhaustion of priority assistance, residence in Berlin, and a one-time application per pregnancy. Approved funds may only be used for the authorized purposes. For final accounting, purchase receipts must be retained and submitted if required. This program offers unbureaucratic support, which in 2023 already accompanied every sixth child born in Berlin, thereby providing real relief in existential challenges.
