Description

The promotion of agri-environmental and climate measures in Brandenburg aims to support agricultural enterprises and other beneficiaries in voluntary management commitments that go beyond the usual requirements. The focus is on five sub-measures: the conversion of arable land into permanent grassland, peat soil protection, water retention, water protection and riparian buffer strips, as well as extensive arable land use in sensitive areas. Accompanied by advisory and planning costs, ecologically valuable services are rewarded – from the preservation and maintenance of grassland to planning for drinking water protection areas. The program offers 100 percent subsidies (up to €1,600 per hectare/year) and promotes, among other things, carbon sequestration, reduction of greenhouse gases, and the preservation of water quality. Applications for the beginning of 2025 can be submitted to the agricultural offices by December 31, 2024. For each project, in addition to location in Brandenburg, proof of operation, and digital field block cadastre, a usage plan, site assessment, and further documents must also be submitted.

The selection takes place in a continuous procedure on fixed cut-off dates, after checking eligibility and fulfillment of core criteria such as land quality, practical relevance, and degree of innovation. With expert selection committees, the measures are evaluated according to their climate and environmental benefits. Approved projects are published promptly, while applications not considered are placed on a waiting list or rejected. The responsible approval authority informs about successfully approved projects; support in the form of consultations and committee work ensures proper implementation and lasting benefits for climate, nature, and water protection in Brandenburg.
