Description
The funding program “Creating Play Spaces” supports civil society initiatives in Bremen in developing open and flexibly usable play and movement areas for children and adolescents. Under the patronage of the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration Bremen, the joint initiative has been funding projects since 1997 that implement the guiding principle of a playable city. Sponsors from associations, citizen initiatives, and non-profit organizations receive financial grants to design spaces in public environments that enable self-determined play and social participation. The nationally unique concept links planning expertise, public relations, and the mobile team of the association SpielLandschaftStadt e. V. to offer practical on-site advice and implementation support. Through cooperation with the German Children’s Fund, a broad network is utilized that consolidates expertise and experience.
Eligible to apply are private individuals, associations, and initiative groups based or active in Bremen who present concrete ideas for creating open-use outdoor spaces for young people. Funding is provided as a grant and can be applied for continuously, allowing smaller projects to be implemented promptly. The goal is to strengthen social cohesion, anchor children’s rights, and make the urban fabric more child-friendly. The initiative is aimed at all those who wish to enhance the quality of life in residential neighborhoods through community engagement and thereby promote participatory urban development. Through transparent award criteria and individual consultation, the fund supports creative project ideas and contributes to the sustainable revitalization of public spaces.
