Description

The City of Vienna supports the rapid conversion of bus fleets in classes M1 to M3 to emission-free drives through a grant program for companies, cooperatives, public institutions, and private individuals. Funding is provided for battery-electric, trolleybus-operated, and fuel cell buses as well as the associated charging, overhead line, and hydrogen refueling infrastructure in direct spatial and technical connection. Additionally, planning, expert reports, and consulting services are eligible expenses. The goal is to significantly increase the share of pollutant-free vehicles and to enable a market ramp-up through a funding rate of up to 60%, thereby making a tangible contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and advancing the mobility transition.

Applications are submitted in a single-stage procedure exclusively electronically via the FFG eCall portal. An online cost plan, a project description, approval certificates, and financial statements from the last two fiscal years must be submitted. Only buses registered in Austria that use exclusively renewable energy sources and the associated infrastructure are eligible for funding. Evaluation criteria include cost efficiency (funding rate vs. additional costs), expected operational performance in commercial vehicle kilometers, CO₂ emission reduction, technical feasibility, and the applicants’ expertise. Project durations of up to 57 months can be applied for within the funding period from 03.09.2025 to 30.06.2030. Framework conditions regarding retention and operational obligations as well as reporting and control duties ensure targeted, economical, and effective use of funds.
