Description
The Local Journalism Funding Program Brandenburg of the Media Authority Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb) aims to secure the diversity of local media in Brandenburg and to counteract structural deficits in regional information provision through financial support for journalistically editorially designed offerings. Funding is provided to broadcasters, online media, and provider communities that primarily engage in local reporting for municipalities, districts, or counties. The funds can be used 100% for personnel and material costs to implement projects with a duration of up to 24 months. In particular, innovative cross-media formats and start-ups are considered, provided they are economically unfeasible without external funding.
Eligible to participate are companies, non-profit organizations, start-ups, as well as public institutions. Essential requirements include journalistic-editorial design, proof of a local information deficit, and the plausibility of the need for funding. Selection criteria include the proportion of local news and political information, informative contributions on social and cultural topics, barrier-free content, technical reach, and cooperation with other providers. A detailed cost and financing plan including own contribution as well as information on distribution channels and expected user numbers are part of the application substance, as are statements on the project start and input tax deduction eligibility. Deadlines and specific call details are regularly announced on the mabb website.
