Description
The funding program Funding Guidelines for Municipal Road Construction (FöRi-kom-Stra) of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is aimed at municipalities, municipal associations, as well as privately organized companies with a municipal majority stake. The objective is the financial support of projects to improve municipal traffic conditions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Funded measures include, among others, interventions on traffic-important roads, traffic control systems, intersection measures, bicycle and pedestrian paths, bus priority lanes, tunnel safety measures, as well as carpool parking lots. Up to 80% of eligible expenses can be covered. Applications must be submitted to the responsible district government no later than May 1 of the year preceding the planned start of construction.
For the application, a construction design, an overall traffic concept, a note on the consultation with representatives or advisory boards for disabled persons, as well as information on the project preparation are required. The measures must ensure safe and efficient road traffic, increase safety at railway crossings, or improve traffic flow. Furthermore, integration with public local transport must be considered. A prerequisite for funding is proof of overall financing, unrestricted building rights, and secured land acquisition. The disbursement is made as a one-time grant, with funding rates determined by the responsible ministry. Contact persons are the five district governments of North Rhine-Westphalia, which manage the funds and provide advisory support during project implementation.
