Description
The program for the “Library of Things” funding in Lower Austria aims to establish the lending of everyday and household items as a sustainable alternative to purchasing new products. Public institutions such as municipalities, municipal associations, and library operators can contribute to resource conservation and waste reduction with this open-ended grant. In line with the circular economy, items are made available for communal use to reduce material consumption while simultaneously raising awareness for environmentally friendly behavior. Applications can be submitted from March 1, 2025, and must always be made prior to the start of the project. A prerequisite is an open lending offer accessible to the general public.
With a funding rate of 50%, up to €4,000 per organization per year, only investment costs are financed: such as shelving systems, boxes and storage materials, as well as the initial equipment with lending items. Personnel and operating costs are not eligible for funding. Eligible applicants are public institutions in Lower Austria that document the lending offer and agree to its inclusion in a publicly accessible online directory. For the application, a completed application form and a tabular cost breakdown with cost estimates are required. This funding instrument provides municipalities and libraries the opportunity to implement modern lending models and thereby actively contribute to waste reduction and the conservation of natural resources.
