Funding of the Alexander Otto Sports Foundation

Since 2006, the Alexander Otto Sports Foundation has been supporting non-profit sports clubs and schools in Hamburg with the aim of sustainably strengthening movement opportunities and participation in sports. Through grants of up to €20,000 per project, grassroots sports, competitive sports, inclusive sports, as well as school and daycare sports are financially supported. The focus of the funding is on the acquisition of sports equipment, hall rental times, and operating costs. The foundation has already realized over 400 projects and additionally awards the Werner Otto Prize annually to recognize exemplary initiatives and enhance their impact throughout the city.

Applications can be submitted continuously until May 31, 2026. Eligible for funding are all non-profit organizations and educational institutions based in Hamburg that are organized as sports clubs or schools and implement projects in the specified areas. To apply, the "Project Funding Application" must be submitted as a PDF. Evaluation is based on the regional benefit, sustainability, and inclusive orientation of the project. Interested clubs and schools thus receive uncomplicated support for investments in sports equipment, room rentals, and ongoing costs to establish attractive sports offerings for all age and target groups.
