Description

The Brigitte and Martin Krause Foundation continuously supports scientific projects in the field of the humanities with an annual volume of around €40,000. The foundation primarily supports Coptology and the Research Unit for Manichaeism at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Applicant institutions must belong to the Institute of Egyptology and Coptology or the Research Unit for Manichaeism. Funding is provided for material resources, scholarships for doctoral candidates in Coptology, and library grants. The funds particularly benefit the edition and research of late antique Coptic texts as well as the study of Coptic art and cultural artifacts.

The foundation’s purpose intensifies scientific engagement with late antique and Coptic Egypt. The awarding of grants enables in-depth analysis of Coptic textiles, research on Manichaean papyri, and the promotion of young scholars. The foundation places great importance on sustainable support for early-career researchers and contributes to maintaining a dedicated professorship for Coptology in Münster, the only location in Germany to do so. Applications can be submitted at any time to the Institute of Egyptology and Coptology or the Research Unit for Manichaeism; decisions are made within the framework of available funds.
