Description
The funding for the preservation and restoration of Vienna's historic building fabric supports private individuals and businesses with additional costs related to urban heritage conservation that arise during repairs, restorations, and conservation work. The grants are administered by the City of Vienna’s Department of Culture (MA 7), which continuously accepts applications (until further notice). The target group primarily includes owners of listed buildings as well as tenants or leaseholders of commercial premises on ground floors, provided that all owners give written consent and an authorized representative is appointed. The Vienna Old Town Preservation Fund supports measures that go beyond standard building code-compliant repairs and sustainably secure the historic appearance in public spaces.
Funding is provided, among other things, for the restoration of listed facades, the conservation of works of art in architecture, as well as work on publicly accessible courtyards, historic interiors, shop portals, and fountain installations. In the form of a non-repayable grant, additional costs relevant to the cityscape are covered, calculated according to the guidelines of the Vienna Old Town Preservation Fund. The support aims to preserve identity-defining architectural details, enhance the cityscape, and secure cultural-historical values in the long term. Since the deadline is open-ended, this program offers flexible and reliable opportunities to preserve Vienna’s heritage for future generations.
