Description
The promotion of facade greening in Vienna supports private and legal owners as well as operators of properties in public spaces and on private land in making urban buildings greener and more diverse. The initiative is carried by private individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, start-ups, cooperatives, foundations, educational institutions, and interest groups. The goal is to reduce the degree of sealing, increase biodiversity, and make an active contribution to climate protection and climate change adaptation. Funding is provided for perennial climbing plants, trellises, peat-free substrate, planting areas, as well as high-quality planting troughs (at least 300 liters), irrigation systems, cisterns, and overgrowth strips. Only properties that have not received similar funding in the past 15 years and where the greening will be maintained for at least 15 years are eligible. Public legal entities are excluded.
The funding guideline provides individual grants in the form of subsidies up to maximum amounts of €100/m² for street-facing facades (maximum €10,000), €75/m² for private properties (maximum €5,000), and up to €30,000 for green roofs. Applications can be submitted from January 1, 2014, onwards continuously until the budget is exhausted via an online form. Required documents include, among others, the application form, a signed funding contract, a cost estimate, photos before greening, and an excerpt from the land register. This sustainable program makes an important contribution to climate resilience, urban development enhancement, and the integration of nature into the Vienna urban space.
