Funding of the Hugo Preuß Foundation

The Hugo Preuß Foundation supports scientists, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and private individuals nationwide who dedicate themselves to researching the historical, political, as well as legal and municipal science works of Hugo Preuß and related topics. As an ongoing grant program, the foundation places special emphasis on projects that lead to clearly documentable research results or joint activities. Traditional publication subsidies in favor of publishers are excluded. The funding areas range from contemporary history and political science to legal studies and municipal science issues. Applications can be submitted at any time, and proposals with high potential for cooperation and scientific added value are given preferential treatment – a flexible framework that encourages creative research projects to focus on innovative questions surrounding Hugo Preuß.

Evaluation criteria include alignment with the foundation’s purpose, transparency and comprehensibility of results, as well as the potential for joint activities. The Hugo Preuß Foundation awards grants to promote the international and interdisciplinary networking of researchers and to deepen the understanding of the political-legal foundations of the Weimar Republic. By funding external projects, a vibrant platform for scientific exchange is created, contributing to embedding Hugo Preuß’s historical legacy into current discourses and opening new perspectives on municipal political structures.
