Description
The Ian and Barbara Karan Foundation supports non-profit organizations and educational institutions in Hamburg and Sri Lanka with grants for youth development. In Hamburg, the focus is on projects that strengthen children and young people, especially those with a migration background, in their linguistic, cultural, and social integration. Funding is provided, among other things, for reading and language programs, sports and music events, as well as initiatives that open cultural institutions such as opera and ballet to young people. Eligible applications include initiatives in the fields of education, health, labor & social affairs, as well as vocational training and continuing education. Thanks to the possibility of year-round application submission, innovative projects can be planned and implemented flexibly.
In parallel, funds flow into Sri Lanka to advance sustainable educational and medical projects for youth. The focus is on the construction and modernization of schools and hospitals – from the new construction of a boarding school for 100 students to the equipping of chemistry laboratories and basic medical care. The foundation aims to provide young people in both regions with equal opportunities and to promote intercultural dialogue. Criteria for funding include a clearly defined concept for youth development, a focus on integration or medical care, and implementation in Hamburg or Sri Lanka. Applications can be submitted easily and at any time.
