Description
The Kasten-Mann Foundation supports nonprofit initiatives and institutions nationwide that are engaged in development cooperation, international understanding, environmental and nature conservation, as well as assistance for those personally and economically disadvantaged. The focus is particularly on projects in crisis and developing regions, especially in Africa, with emphasis on education, health, and infrastructure measures. Efforts to combat poverty, promote women and children, and strengthen social cohesion and democracy are also considered. For ecological sustainability, reforestation programs, resource protection, and climate education are supported. By awarding microcredits and equipping small enterprises, the foundation contributes to economic self-help, while in the event of disasters, rapid assistance for affected people is enabled.
Funding applications can be submitted at any time by nonprofit organizations, public and private educational institutions, as well as foundations. Submission is informal; a detailed project description and proof of nonprofit status and planned use of funds must be attached. Selection is based on the foundation’s purpose according to § 53 AO: sustainable improvement of living conditions, promotion of tolerance and international understanding, and protection of natural livelihoods. Funding is provided as a grant; accompanying consultations or expert opinions by independent specialists are possible. Concurrently, the institution emphasizes transparency and efficient use of funds in accordance with the principles of good foundation practice. Interested actors in the fields of development cooperation and social services thus receive a reliable partnership to sustainably establish effective and self-sustaining projects.
