Description
Since 1987, the Koblenz Sports Foundation has been supporting non-profit recognized sports clubs and schools based in Koblenz through annual grants for competitive and youth sports. The foundation's goal is to partially offset particularly high expenses in youth competitive and elite sports and to promote the continuous development of talented athletes with national rankings, international success prospects, or federal squad status. Funding applications can be submitted until January 31, 2027, and relate to a funding period of twelve months. The allocation of funds is made by the board of trustees upon the recommendation of the executive board; over 600,000 euros have been disbursed to date. Eligible expenses include coach and instructor fees, entry fees, as well as travel and accommodation costs; services for professional athletes are excluded.
The primary target group consists of Koblenz sports clubs and schools whose athletes have successfully competed in national championships (places 1–6) or international competitions (Olympic Games, World and European Championships) or belong to a federal squad or the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga. The funding categories include both Olympic and Paralympic disciplines as well as non-Olympic sports. Depending on the success level, grants range between 250 euros and 5,000 euros per athlete or team, plus bonuses for international placements. Applications are submitted via the club or school application form, which must be accompanied by evidence of national and international achievements as well as confirmation from the club. Insight into the statutes and funding criteria is provided by the official documentation of the City of Koblenz.
