Funding of the Markel Foundation

The Markel Foundation is committed as a funding provider within the framework of the Deutschlandstipendium and thus makes a valuable contribution to the financial security of students in Germany. Through a nationwide funding model, the foundation supports once a year students who stand out due to outstanding academic achievements or particular social or economic need. Designed as an award, the Markel Foundation’s participation in the Deutschlandstipendium takes the form of continuous payments to promote both excellence and equal opportunity.

Eligible for funding are students of German universities who are recommended by their institution for the Deutschlandstipendium. Funding requirements include, in addition to an official university nomination, proof of exceptional academic success or demonstrated need. The evaluation is primarily based on academic achievements as well as social and economic criteria. With this initiative, the Markel Foundation not only supports individual educational paths but also strengthens the scientific talent pool in Germany in the long term.
