Description

The Mechtild and Günter Welker Foundation supports socially and educationally oriented project ideas with a model character in Lower Saxony. The aim is to provide start-up funding for time-limited initiatives in the official district of Oldenburg as well as in the Quakenbrück/Bersenbrück area, which strengthen disadvantaged children and young people, students, and (expectant) families. Funding is provided for examples ranging from individual assistance for pregnant women and single parents through Caritas and Diakonie counseling centers, parent and family education programs, "Early Help" initiatives, reading, sewing, or STEM projects, to string and wind instrument classes. The foundation also supports Germany scholarships, student and vocational training scholarships for outstanding achievements, promoting both social commitment and professional competence equally. As non-profit organizations, applicants receive financial grants that must be used exclusively for the purpose described in the application.

Applications can be submitted continuously and are decided twice a year (April and November) by the foundation. A prerequisite is proof of non-profit status as well as a not yet started, regionally anchored project. A complete application includes a filled-out application form or a brief informal letter (1–2 pages), a meaningful project description, a detailed financing and cost plan, proof of non-profit status, and for scholarships, a recommendation from a teacher or trainer. Decisions are made based on available funds and without legal entitlement. The initiative warmly invites non-profit organizations to submit creative, sustainable concepts and thereby take responsibility for a solidaristic and equitable society.
