Description

In Lower Austria, the funding program of the state government offers financial grants for projects in museums and collections that are based on a written concept and convince through their innovative strength as well as long-term impact. Recipients of funding are private individuals, non-profit organizations, companies, public institutions, foundations, associations, and cooperatives with headquarters or project locations in Lower Austria. Funding is provided, among other things, for the redesign of permanent exhibitions, the creation of educational trails and themed paths, the inventory of collection holdings, the establishment of storage facilities, as well as conservation measures and restorations. The development of special mediation programs is also supported to sustainably enhance the visitor experience and professionally preserve the cultural heritage.

Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, but must be submitted before the start of the project – for special exhibitions, submission by February 15 of the respective year is recommended. Eligible expenses include conception, exhibition design, inventory, storage facility setup, restorations, and mediation programs. Excluded are construction measures, general operating costs, advertising and opening expenses, as well as personnel costs for cleaning or guiding. Evaluation is based on innovation and long-term impact, quality of the concept, relation to Lower Austria, local anchoring, cooperation with similar professional institutions, and consideration of sustainable and inclusive aspects. A detailed financing plan, cost estimates, proof of own contributions and third-party funds, as well as – for existing institutions – visitor statistics are part of the application documents.
