Description

In North Rhine-Westphalia, a grant funding program is available to support public institutions, companies with majority municipal ownership, associations, foundations, and interest groups in investment projects related to bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The objective is the planning and implementation of new bicycle traffic facilities, pedestrian infrastructure, bicycle parking facilities including e-charging stations, as well as signage systems for a connected mobility network. Public relations measures can also be co-financed. A prerequisite for funding is the recognition of the participating municipalities as pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly. Minor amounts up to €20,000 (€5,000 for parking facilities) are disregarded. Maintenance and repairs are not eligible expenses. The funded projects generally require a commitment period of 20 years, in exceptional cases 10 years.

Purpose of funding is to strengthen local mobility through safe bicycle and pedestrian connections and to shift motorized traffic to climate-friendly modes of transport. An appropriate integration with public local transport must be ensured. For the application, Form Template 1 along with the documents required under point 7.2 of the Local Mobility Funding Guidelines (FöRi-Nah) is necessary. The complete application must be submitted to the District Government of Arnsberg – Department 25 – no later than June 1 of the year preceding the planned start of construction. Municipal associations benefit as well as private sponsors, provided that their statutory task includes the promotion of sustainable mobility concepts. Interested project sponsors can obtain comprehensive information on the procedure and funding conditions from the approval authority in Arnsberg.
