Description

The Otto Henneberg-Poppenbüttel Foundation continuously grants funding for dendrological research in Hamburg and supports projects related to woody plants such as trees, shrubs, and climbing plants. Eligible to apply are educational institutions, private individuals, non-profit organizations, and foundations that can present a well-founded research concept in the field of dendrology. The funding focuses thematically on science, environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, and climate protection. In particular, studies that contribute to the preservation and documentation of the botanical cultural heritage of the Arboretum Marienhof are supported. The foundation aims to research rare woody plant species and to preserve the 2.7-hectare arboretum with around 200 different tree and shrub species as a unique gem in northern Hamburg.

Scientists and individual researchers at universities or research institutions benefit from the opportunity to submit applications at any time. A prerequisite is a meaningful research concept as well as proof of professional qualification in the botanical or dendrological field. Selection is based on the scientific quality of the project, its relevance to the preservation of the Arboretum Marienhof, and the sustainability of the project. Applications must include a detailed project description, a curriculum vitae, and a cost and financing plan. The foundation sees itself as a reliable partner for innovative research approaches that deepen the understanding of woody plants and secure the Arboretum Marienhof as a botanical cultural heritage site in the long term.
