Funding of the Saxon Foundation for Media Education (SSM)

The Saxon Foundation for Media Education (SSM) supports non-profit institutions and students in the Free State of Saxony with non-repayable grants for research projects, training, further education measures, scholarships, and competitions in the fields of media, media education, and new information and communication technologies. Funding requirements include having a registered office or activity in Saxony, proof of non-profit status, a secured financing plan, and project commencement after approval. The foundation grants subsidies of up to 80% of eligible expenses – including personnel costs, material and travel expenses, or fees – and bases its selection on the quality of the submitted concept, the contribution to strengthening Saxony as a media location, and the appropriateness of the requested services. Applications can be submitted annually by August 15; the decision is made by the board of trustees within the framework of available funds.

For the application, the statutes or articles of association of the applicant, a current certificate of non-profit status, a precise project description including a timeline and financing plan, a self-presentation, as well as the entry in the association or commercial register are required. The SSM not only funds scientific studies and practice-oriented educational offers but also enables students to obtain interest-free or low-interest loans for media-related studies in Saxony. With its broad range of funding, the foundation aims to open up innovative concepts to young professionals and institutions that contribute in the long term to increasing the attractiveness of Saxony as a media location.
