Description

The St. George Foundation Sottrum was established in 2008 by committed members of the Evangelical Lutheran St. George’s Church Congregation to secure and expand church and diaconal life in the villages of the region in the long term. With an endowment capital that has grown to €180,000 today, the foundation supports projects in the areas of youth and elderly work, cultural events, as well as the preservation of church buildings. The interest income and earmarked additional donations enable continuous co-financing of pastoral and deacon positions to maintain pastoral care and coordination of volunteer engagement even in the face of declining revenues of the regional church. Through this sustainable financing model, the foundation contributes to keeping church community life vibrant in Sottrum and the surrounding villages and allows it to adapt to future challenges.

As a grant provider, the St. George Foundation supports public and non-profit organizations – especially projects with a clear connection to church or diaconal life in the Sottrum church congregation. Funding is provided for personnel costs for pastoral and deacon positions, measures to preserve church buildings, as well as initiatives for youth and elderly work and cultural offerings for all generations. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, provided the projects are anchored in the church congregation and fulfill the foundation’s purpose. The straightforward application process enables project leaders to receive financial support promptly and thus realize important offerings for youth, seniors, and volunteers in the social and cultural sectors.
