Description
The Berliner Sparkasse Foundation – by citizens for Berlin – supports a wide range of charitable and benevolent initiatives in the state of Berlin through its ongoing grant program. Projects are funded that correspond to at least one of the statutory purposes such as culture and monument preservation, sports, education and training, youth and elderly care, healthcare, environmental and animal protection, as well as science and research, and at the same time contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The funding rate is up to 80% of eligible expenses, whereby the total budget and the proportion of own funds, the project impact, as well as the fulfillment of sustainability criteria play a central role in the evaluation. Funds from the earmarked proceeds of the savings lottery “PS Saving and Winning” ensure sustainable financing, with allocation decisions made in two board meetings in spring and autumn.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, associations, foundations, and educational institutions based in Berlin that can provide a current tax exemption certificate from the tax office and pursue a statutory purpose. Applications can be submitted electronically by June 30 or December 31 and require a detailed cost and financing plan, the articles of association or statutes, an extract from the register, as well as the tax exemption certificate. Ineligible costs include, among others, administrative expenses, events, travel and hospitality costs, construction and printing costs, prizes and competitions, as well as projects of political, religious, or ideological organizations. Interested applicants benefit from a transparent decision-making structure and a close alignment with the goals of sustainable development for a vibrant and solidaristic Berlin.
