Funding of the Billwerder Foundation

The Billwerder Foundation continuously supports non-profit organizations in Hamburg, particularly in Billwerder and the Vier- and Marschlande areas, with financial grants. Projects are funded in the fields of nature conservation & landscape management, art & culture, as well as monument protection & preservation. Applications can be submitted at any time without fixed deadlines. A prerequisite is non-profit status and a close alignment with the foundation’s objectives according to the Federal Nature Conservation Act. Measures on private buildings are excluded from funding to ensure a clear focus on publicly effective initiatives and the preservation of historic building fabric.

The selection process is based on the regional location in Billwerder or the Vier- and Marschlande areas as well as conformity with the foundation’s goals. Supported initiatives range from the maintenance of cultural landscapes and the preservation of historic monuments to the artistic and cultural revival of hidden treasures. Funding can be provided directly through project collaborations, where individual cost items are covered, or indirectly by forwarding funds to other tax office-recognized entities with shared statutory purposes. This flexible model enables the realization of creative projects and sustainably strengthens local identity.
