Description

The Chancen und Bildung für Kinder – Erika Thomas Foundation supports non-profit organizations, educational institutions, interest groups, and foundations in Berlin in implementing creative reading promotion projects for children and adolescents. Approximately €10,000 in funding is available annually, with multi-year support possible. Projects that strengthen reading and writing skills through innovative approaches while simultaneously addressing social disadvantages in cultural education are eligible for funding. Only non-profit organizations conducting their project activities in Berlin and engaged in the fields of reading promotion, culture, and education & training are eligible to apply.

Applications can be submitted at any time until the annual funds are exhausted. The project period typically covers 12 months; eligible expenses include personnel and material costs, project-related acquisitions, public relations, and administrative costs (flat rate up to 6%). Retroactive costs are excluded. The evaluation is based on the innovativeness of the idea, the creative approach to reading promotion, as well as sustainability and continuation planning. Application requires a fully completed application form, a budget and financing plan, a consent form for participants, regulations on property use, a funding request, and information for the progress report. Additional forms for the progress report and accounting are available for the proof of use. Applicants commit to visibly displaying the foundation’s logo in publications and providing image or text materials for public relations. This funding opportunity offers non-profit organizations the chance to make access to literature and written language more sustainable through imaginative methods and to promote the cultural participation of young people in the long term.
