Description

The Nordfrisian Halligen Foundation specifically promotes projects aimed at the careful development and preservation of the unique Hallig landscape in Schleswig-Holstein and throughout Germany through its grant program. The focus is on measures to protect and restore cultural heritage – such as the restoration of historic cemeteries or the reconstruction of traditional windmills. In addition, the foundation supports projects related to training and education as well as visitor information: information boards, exhibitions, and experiential trails convey valuable knowledge about the natural and cultural landscape of the Halligen. By combining regional development, environmental and nature conservation, and monument protection, the program contributes to the long-term preservation and experience of the fragile ecosystem and cultural particularities.

Eligible for funding are companies, public and non-profit institutions, and committed private individuals who can demonstrate their location or activity in the region or nationwide and whose projects are directly related to the Nordfrisian Halligen. Applicants may submit project proposals at any time – there is no fixed deadline. Eligible expenses include construction measures for the restoration and maintenance of buildings, measures for cultural preservation, as well as the implementation of information and environmental education offerings. Through the open submission process and the broad range of thematic areas from culture and education to energy efficiency and infrastructure, the Nordfrisian Halligen Foundation offers diverse opportunities to strengthen and sustainably shape individual initiative for the protection of these extraordinary habitats.
