Description
The Jürgen Dulz Therapeutic Riding Foundation supports non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and private individuals in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein with ongoing grants for horse-assisted social and health projects. Funding is provided to riding stables offering Therapeutic Riding, Hippotherapy, or horse-assisted remedial education, as well as to certified professionals holding a certificate from the German Curatorium for Therapeutic Riding (DKThR). The funding portfolio includes individual and group lessons, training and continuing education in the field of Therapeutic Riding, the acquisition and housing of therapy horses, and the procurement of material resources such as riding helmets or medically necessary equipment like flexible inhalers. A recommendation from a certified professional and an individual decision by the foundation’s board are the central evaluation criteria, with the applicant’s location in Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein being a prerequisite.
With the aim of strengthening the inclusive participation of children and adolescents—especially those with disabilities or psychosocial challenges—the foundation supports innovative projects such as trauma-informed riding therapies for refugee children or reading and spelling competence courses combined with remedial riding. Upon application, further training for educational professionals, riding instructors, and therapists is also subsidized to establish sustainable quality standards in Therapeutic Riding. The open-ended application process allows flexible planning of projects and continuing education measures. Required are a completed funding application with project description, the DKThR certificate, and a recommendation from a qualified professional to emphasize the healing effect of the horse as a partner.
