Description
The funding program of the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy Economy in Baden-Württemberg strengthens the technical and ecological modernization of small hydropower plants and weirs. With a funding rate of 40% of eligible expenses and a maximum grant of €200,000, investments are supported that efficiently utilize existing generation and revitalization potentials while simultaneously meeting strict ecological requirements. The funding targets projects for the technical upgrading of operating plants as well as the recommissioning of decommissioned facilities and measures to develop ecologically compatible hydropower potentials.
Eligible applicants include natural and legal persons under public and private law, including private individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and public institutions. A prerequisite is the acquisition of ownership or lawful operation of a small plant with an output between 100 kW and under 1,000 kW (for older plants from 40 kW) as well as a water law permit from the lower water authority. The project must start in the year of approval. Applications must be submitted to the responsible lower water authority by March 31 and October 31 each year and additionally forwarded to the competent regional council. Interested parties benefit from a transparent procedure to promote sustainable hydropower use, taking into account regional and ecological aspects.
