Description
The Free State of Bavaria supports providers of the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) throughout Bavaria with an annual fixed-amount grant. The funding particularly covers the pedagogical supervision of participants as well as personnel and material expenses incurred in connection with the organization and implementation of the FSJ. With 28 euros per volunteer and full service month, the state funding contributes to securing a needs-based and comprehensive offer of FSJ placements and maintaining the diversity of providers. The goal is to enable young people to experience a high-quality educational and orientation phase in social engagement, strengthen their social skills, and promote their sense of responsibility for the common good.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, educational institutions, companies, interest groups, and other associations approved in Bavaria that ensure pedagogical supervision over at least 25 educational days as well as the payment of an allowance of at least 180 euros (or a total benefit of 360 euros in case of substitute benefits for accommodation and meals). Additionally required are the payment of social security contributions and a personal contribution of at least 10% of the eligible expenses. Funded expenses include, among others, personnel costs for pedagogical professionals (one full-time position per 40 volunteers), freelance staff, room rentals, seminar materials, travel expenses, and accommodation costs up to 50 euros per seminar day. The project duration is twelve months, with the approval period covering the FSJ year (September 1 to August 31). Payments are made up to 80% in installments during the approval period, with the remainder paid after verification of the usage report. Through this funding, Bavaria makes an important contribution to the qualitative development of the FSJ as a binding educational and orientation year.
