Support for the establishment, expansion, and operation of strategically significant innovation clusters in Hesse (Innovation Clusters)

The funding measure enables the establishment, expansion, and operation of strategically important innovation clusters in Hesse through financial grants. Eligible to apply are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), educational institutions, public and non-profit organizations, as well as consortia consisting of companies, universities, research institutions, and other cooperation partners with headquarters or a significant operational site in Hesse. The measure supports projects in the fields of research & innovation, science, digitalization, regional development, as well as agriculture & rural development. The goal is to strengthen regional innovation networks by supporting personnel and material costs, event and travel expenses, as well as external services. Applications can be submitted continuously via the Wirtschafts- und Infrastrukturbank Hessen (WIBank). Foundations for a successful application include proof of membership in a strategic innovation cluster, a coordinated project and financing plan, and a presentation of the cluster’s strategic significance for Hesse.

The selection is based on the evaluation criteria of innovation potential, strategic importance for Hesse, and degree of cooperation within the cluster. Funded are concepts that promote sustainable partnerships and knowledge transfer between business, science, and administration. For submission, a detailed project description, a financing plan, CVs of the management and coordination personnel, as well as proof of cluster membership are required. This funding creates forward-looking networks that increase regional value creation, expand digital competencies, and strengthen rural areas. The measure is aimed at all actors who wish to jointly develop and implement innovative solutions to sustainably consolidate Hesse’s position as a location for innovation.
