Description
The grant program for the promotion of the expansion of gigabit networks in Rhineland-Palatinate supports public institutions such as districts, independent cities, collective municipalities and independent municipalities, special-purpose associations, as well as legally competent public law institutions in investments in gigabit-capable broadband networks. In areas previously unserved by private providers ("white" spots) or insufficiently served ("grey" spots), up to €80 million per project can be granted. The funding rate ranges between 40% and 80% of eligible expenses, depending on the design, with a minimum own contribution of 10% required. Applications can be submitted continuously before the selection of the network operator in the competitive procedure.
Funding is provided for investments in passive municipal broadband infrastructures (gigabit networks), municipal financial participation in investments by private network operators, as well as consulting services such as network planning and feasibility studies. A prerequisite for approval includes, among other things, the consent of all participating municipalities, the conduct of a competitive procedure for selecting the network operator, and proof of a significant improvement in broadband coverage. Projects with eligible expenses below €200,000 under the operator model or below €12,500 for planning and consulting services are excluded. The overall financing of the project must be secured to ensure prompt implementation of the infrastructure measures.
