Funding of Bread for the World Protestant Agency for Diakonia and Development e.V.

The program of Brot für die Welt – Protestant Agency for Diakonia and Development offers ongoing project funding for civil society initiatives in developing and emerging countries. The goal is a sustainable improvement of the living conditions of disadvantaged population groups through partnerships with church-based and non-governmental organizations. The funding covers the thematic areas of development cooperation, education, health, environmental/nature conservation, climate protection, migration, social affairs, agriculture and rural development, as well as labor market integration and energy efficiency. Designed as a grant, the program supports personnel and material costs, local procurement of materials, as well as travel and transport expenses, placing particular emphasis on participatory partnership concepts and the long-term impact of the measures. Applications can be submitted nationwide at any time and are exclusively addressed to non-profit organizations, foundations, and public institutions.

Projects that are implemented in close cooperation with a local partner organization and pursue a clear sustainability approach are eligible for funding. A prerequisite is proof of non-profit status or church affiliation as well as compliance with specific requirements of Brot für die Welt, such as collaboration with local actors and a detailed financing plan. Retroactive expenses, debt repayments, or acquisitions of luxury goods are not eligible for funding. Selection is based on sustainability, relevance to target groups, effectiveness, and partnership concept. To apply, the application form, project description, financing plan, proof of legal status, and partnership agreement must be submitted. The continuously open deadlines enable planning and flexibility for non-profit associations and NGOs implementing sustainable development projects in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
