Description

The funding provided by the German Library Association (dbv) supports innovative concepts for libraries nationwide to ensure free access to media and information. The funding program is explicitly aimed at public institutions and non-profit organizations active in municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants. Within the framework of the initiative, projects are particularly supported that focus on the digital advancement of libraries and archives as well as the implementation of innovative reading promotion concepts for children and young people. Through the continuous grant funding form, the program makes a significant contribution to the modernization and sustainable strengthening of library services in Germany.

The funding objective is to support ideas that drive digital transformation in libraries while simultaneously improving educational and participation processes within the population. In collaboration with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), projects will receive selected impulses to integrate technological innovations into library work. The measures range from the introduction of new digital media formats to the development of didactic concepts that meet the needs of all citizens. The initiative explicitly addresses the challenges of the contemporary information society and supports libraries in fulfilling their societal mandate in the areas of education, digitalization, and sustainable development.

Through this funding, innovative strategies and concepts to ensure free access to information can be further developed, which in the long term contributes to strengthening the democratic and cultural infrastructure. The program not only promotes the digital transformation of libraries but also places a focus on reading promotion among children and young people to support future generations in their media literacy. This continuous funding opportunity ensures that the scope of action for institutions is expanded and that they assume a key role as central contact points for education, research, and social exchange. Project details and application-related information can be obtained depending on the project, thereby providing the dbv with a flexible framework for diverse approaches.
