Description

Since 2016, the Export Initiative Environmental Protection of the Federal Ministry for the Environment has been promoting the worldwide implementation of green environmental and resource efficiency technologies "Made in Germany." The goal is to build sustainable infrastructures with high environmental benefits as well as to transfer know-how of German GreenTech solutions to emerging and developing countries. In the two-stage process, companies, non-profit organizations, as well as universities and non-university research institutions submit a project outline via the electronic system easy-Online. Subsequently, the formal application is submitted to the project sponsor Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH. Funding is provided for feasibility studies, pilot and model projects, capacity-building measures, and investment projects, particularly in the areas of circular economy, water and wastewater management, green hydrogen technologies, sustainable mobility, as well as urban and regional development.

Eligible for funding are small and medium-sized enterprises, associations, federations, foundations, universities, and research institutions with headquarters or operational facilities in Germany. A prerequisite for funding is a clear presentation of the project objectives with project-specific indicators and milestones, the involvement of local stakeholders and political decision-makers at all levels, as well as secured financing of the entire project. For collaborative projects, a written cooperation agreement is required. The funding rate ranges from 80% to 100% depending on the type of project. Applications can be submitted by the deadlines specified in the funding call to advance internationally sustainable infrastructure projects.
