Description
Funding of the International Press Institute (IPI) in Vienna permanently supports the independence and diversity of journalistic work and contributes to the global strengthening of press freedom. This grant is exclusively directed at non-profit sponsoring organizations and is provided as a direct subsidy in accordance with the provisions of the General Framework Guidelines (ARR) as well as the funding agreement valid since 1992. The allocation of funds is based on the applicable financial legislative authorizations. Applications can be submitted at any time, allowing the IPI to respond flexibly to current challenges in the media environment. The open-ended orientation creates lasting scope for action for international projects and cooperations in the field of media and information freedom.
With the funding objective of securing a free and diverse media landscape, this funding pillar provides the International Press Institute with the necessary resources to implement campaigns, research projects, and protective measures for media professionals worldwide. The requested funds are used, for example, for the analysis of press freedom trends, the development of training initiatives for journalists, as well as the accompaniment and coordination of emergency aid in case of threats. Eligible applicants are exclusively non-profit institutions that have already anchored the strengthening of media freedom in their statutes or rules of procedure.
