Funding of the Salzburg Gazetteer Historical-Etymological Lexicon of Salzburg Place Names

The funding supports the Salzburg Place Names Commission in financing the ongoing scientific effort to maintain and expand the Salzburg place names database, while simultaneously creating a comprehensive historical-etymological lexicon of place names in the state of Salzburg. Public institutions, as eligible applicants, can submit annual grants for the necessary material expenses. The objective of this measure is to systematically continue the documentary recording and etymological analysis of local toponyms, thereby making a significant contribution to cultural-historical research and the preservation of regional cultural heritage.

Applications can be submitted at any time and without limitation; the prerequisite is the submission of a formal application including the current annual financial statement. Eligible expenses include all costs directly related to database maintenance and book publication, such as office supplies, research standards, or editorial activities. The processing is carried out by the Office of the Salzburg State Government – State Archives, which reviews the applications received and allocates the approved grants. Interested expert committees and public institutions benefit from this continuous support to realize the scientific reference work for Salzburg and incorporate it into future research projects.
