Description
Since its establishment in 1974, the Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin Foundation has supported numerous charitable initiatives that make a sustainable contribution to public life in Berlin. With a funding strategy encompassing social, charitable, cultural, civic, youth-promoting, and sporting projects, this grant initiative is aimed at Berlin-based institutions, non-profit organizations, and – in the cultural sector – also at individuals. The funding is based on the principle of supporting forward-looking projects that have a measurable positive impact on life in the capital. Both individual, clearly defined projects and institutional initiatives covering various expense areas are granted in the form of earmarked subsidies.
The funding priorities focus on themes such as social issues, environmental and nature conservation, climate protection, animal welfare, as well as culture and media. Projects falling within these areas are intended to strengthen social cohesion while promoting the potential for innovative developments in the city of Berlin. By supporting initiatives specifically designed to address current and future challenges, an important contribution is made to sustainably improving Berlin’s cultural and social fabric. Sporting projects that encourage athletic engagement and promote physical activity in the region are also considered.
Certain prerequisites must be met to qualify for funding. Among other requirements, the project must not have commenced and must be recognized as charitable. Additionally, the initiative must be socially, charitably, culturally, civically, or environmentally oriented and demonstrate a clear connection to Berlin’s public interest. Applicants acting as legal entities – with the exception of individuals in the cultural sector – have the option to submit a written application in paper form. Ideally, this should be submitted approximately nine months before the project start date, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of criteria such as societal benefit, alignment with Berlin’s interests, and the project’s forward-looking orientation.
