Description
The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) supports interdisciplinary research consortia in the development and testing of innovative in silico methods for medically relevant use cases. During the feasibility phase, non-repayable grants of up to €90,000 per grant recipient are awarded for a maximum duration of ten months. The goal is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge from computer-assisted simulations into clinical practice, thereby enabling patients faster, more efficient, and safer access to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Eligible applicants include public and state-recognized universities, non-university research institutions, as well as commercial enterprises maintaining a place of business in Germany and cooperating collaboratively within an interdisciplinary consortium.
Funding covers expenses for personnel costs, materials, contract research, patent applications, and, in exceptional cases, investments, while clinical studies, de novo data generation, biobank collections, and the development of new methods are excluded. In addition to evidence of relevant preliminary work and a research data management plan, a written cooperation agreement and the company’s own contribution to project costs are prerequisites for the grant. Project outlines must be submitted electronically via the easy online system by no later than 27.08.2026. Following a positive evaluation in a “Distributed Peer Review,” projects may proceed to a subsequent implementation phase, during which they can be continued for up to three years.
